Moving from Meta

I woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. I grabbed my phone and went to login to Instagram only to find out my account was suspended. I panicked.

Years of investment into my Instagram account and over 10k followers out the window or so it seemed. Fortunately I followed the instructions to dispute the problem and my account was immediately re-enabled. Why it was disabled in the first place remains a mystery.

But it seems I was close to a worst case scenario as a result of focusing my efforts into one company's platforms. If for some reason that company bans you, you are basically offline. As a software engineer, I've been aware of this risk forever, but out of ease, I ignored it. Well that's about to change.

I plan to start using other accounts including Blue Sky, YouTube, and this blog.

I expect this transition to take time, but I would rather control the interactions with my friends, followers, and customers than to be at the mercy of a third-party and their algorithm. So expect some changes around here. I hope to make this experience better, and I hope you will take the time to subscribe!
